I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the kitchen is has become the main gathering for many families.  The kitchen is where families gather to eat.  It is a room where homework is done, games are played, and bonding happens.  If you are like me, you spend the majority of your time at home in the kitchen.  It is no surprise that if you were to walk into my kitchen, you would see a very organized space.  There are so many benefits to keeping and maintaining an organized kitchen.  Let’s take a look at the benefits of an organized kitchen now!

An organized kitchen helps save time and money, is easier to maintain, and makes it look nicer-which can increase the value of your home.

Saves time

The initial start to organizing any space in your home can be time-consuming and overwhelming, to say the least.  The kitchen can be the most time-consuming when you decide to organize the room.  From piles of Tupperware to that a pantry full of food to that junk drawer that we all have, that no one sees, your kitchen can get messy in a hurry.  Spending time to organize each drawer and cabinet will save you time in the long run.

My kids wake up super early.  I find myself half asleep reaching for what I need in the morning.  Prior to organizing my kitchen, it would take time to dig through cabinets for cereal bowls. I’d spend even more time trying to find a lid for my Tupperware for cut fruit.  Now that my kitchen has some order to it, I no longer need to dig through the clutter to find what I am looking for.  I now can get what I need for the kids in a few minutes. I can even enjoy a few sips of coffee in the time I would have spent prior to organizing my kitchen.

Saves money

Who doesn’t like to save money?  As a family of four, I am constantly looking for new ways to cut down our bills.  One way that I have saved our families hundreds of dollars a year is by organizing our kitchen.  Sounds silly, doesn’t it?  Think about it for a second.  How many times have you gone to the food store and came back with stuff you have tucked away in a cabinet?  It has happened to me more times than I like to admit.  There was a point in time where I had 3 bottles of Worcestershire sauce and multiple jars of garlic!  Having a well-organized kitchen will help prevent you from buying duplicates of things you already have.

Keeping your kitchen organized will give you access to everything you have in your cabinets and drawers.  There is a sale at the grocery store to buy two get two free.  You buy them because it is a great deal and put them in the back of your cabinet (you know the one that is an arm’s length deep).  Those products are now out of sight, out of mind.  Six months later, you clean out and organize the cabinet and find those bottles and they are now expired.  Too often, products in your kitchen expire before being used, which is a waste of money.  Organizing these spaced can help you save money by utilizing all of your kitchen goodies prior to them going bad.

Having an organized kitchen can also decrease your take-out bill.  Coming home after a long day the choice between cooking and take-out is a difficult choice.  When your kitchen is cluttered and unorganized, I am sure when you have the choice, take out is the way to go.  Organizing your cabinets, drawers, and countertops will help you be able to plan your meals ahead of time.  Having access to see what you have available to cook with, makes cooking less stressful, and much easier.

Easier to maintain

Being that the kitchen is the heart of most people’s homes, it is important that it is cleaned regularly.  Cluttered cabinets and countertops can make cleaning your space near impossible.  Making sure that your food, cooking utensils, spices, etc. all have a place that will make your kitchen easier to clean and maintain.  Wiping down your countertops and cabinets after cooking will become routine. You won’t be wasting time relocating the clutter that has accumulated in your cabinets, drawers, and countertops.

Maintaining a clean, organized kitchen also helps keep your space safe.  Keeping things on the floor is a tripping hazard.  Having a cluttered countertop can become a fire hazard.  If your cabinet underneath your sink if full to the brim, it can be hard to get to your pipes or garbage disposal in the event of a clogged sink or leaky faucet.  Keeping your kitchen organized and maintaining that space will help to keep you and your family safer.

Looks nicer and can increase the value of your home

There is nothing else in the world that I dislike more than coming downstairs to a messy kitchen.  Having a clean, organized kitchen causes unnecessary stress.  Ever get a knock on the door from a friend or your in-laws and go into panic mode because your kitchen is an absolute disaster?  Having your kitchen organized keeps it cleaner and will make your life a lot easier when you have those surprise visitors.

Life moves quickly and we all have a lot on our plates.  Having a disorganized space can cause unnecessary stress in your life.  Spending that time to organize your kitchen will make it look nicer, and in turn, it will also help with your stress levels.

Having a nicely organized kitchen also adds to the aesthetics of a kitchen. This is true even if the space is small or has small flaws or needs repairs.  Buyers looking to purchase a new home tend to overlook the design of a kitchen. The or the functional flaws if the kitchen is clean and organized.  When a kitchen is organized and free from clutter it can give the impression that the kitchen is larger than it seems.  Prospective buyers look at a kitchen and will try and imagine themselves in that space.  They are more likely to make an offer on your home if they envision the kitchen to be an easy space to cook, bake, and entertain.

Final Thoughts

Making the decision the organize your kitchen can be one that can cause stress especially if you have not done so in a long time.  Taking the time to do it right the first time, will make it easier to maintain going forward.  From saving time and money to keeping up with your organization, to making your space look nicer, it is well worth the effort to take the plunge and get your kitchen organized.

In today’s world, there are so many different storage options.  It does not matter the size of your kitchen, organizing is easy! There are tons of different products out there to help organize your space to help keep it clutter-free!  I found this article last year and bought several of the items to help keep my kitchen organized.
